The next tenant of White House would have to bring with them their passion for the internet. Barak Obama wants to promote the participation of the net between the government directly to the citizens.

The Internet has been a strategic element in the campaign of Barack Obama, so much for the recruitment of volunteers as well as the diffusion of messages and videos. He has expressed his enthusiasm without concealing new technology. Now it remains to see how the internet will be integrated into his exercise.

Following the questions, “are the team of Obama going to use a large database that has been formed during the electoral campaign to obtain support from the government?” questioned Julie Germany, director of the democracy and internet institute at the George Washington university.

“For example, we could send messages or try to call groups that are influenced by the members of congress about what will work in administration” he explained.

Mica Sifry, founder of Techpresident.com, a blog about politics and the internet confirmed that Obama will find involvement from the citizens on the internet because it is interesting. “The people are more motivated to support the order of the president if they think it is his own agenda” assured Sifry who believes that Obama is going to realise the more he leaves to the supporters, the more power he will have.”

Thus the change that has already been put into motion in Change.gov, an open site for the participation on the net during the process of transition between the term of office of Bush and of Obama. Obama will take possession of the presidency of EEUU on the 20th January next year.

The site invites its users to share their vision of the future of the country and not forgetting to ask those who participate in various dates that are enlarging the date base that managed to collaborate the elected president.

Craig Newmark, founder of the popular news site Craigslist.com and consultant of Obama for new technologies, says the use of the internet can help make the government more open and receptive.

Newmark recalls that in New York and San Francisco there is a program called 311, a customer service for the local governments. It is the matter of the telephone and that one can call if there is any problem with the local administration. Newmark proposes to extend this program to the whole government in the United States.

Powerful instrument

The ex director of the Internet services of White House, David Almacy, assured that the internet is a “powerful instrument” for the president of the United States and in particular ” in order to communicate the agenda of the president”

“The Internet is a spokesperson open 7 days a week and 24 hours a day”, ” whilst we sleep, everything is available for those that are looking for legislation on the subject of energy or information about the war against terrorism or the conflict of Iraq.”

Nevertheless, Almacy who promoted the site Whitehouse.gov during his two years in White House showed that the administration of Obama will have a limited margin to manoeuvre the use of the internet, such as the impossibility to use “cookies” and the use of psychology in a wary public.

A lot of them talk and talks and advocate that this is great! This is awesome. Does anyone out there talks on the other side of it? Why are you people talks about it always anyway? Is it for traffic? For better ranking on search engine results? Everyday some blogs up there and here wrote about social media. Social media is good for you as they say. But hey, I’d like to throw a question for you. Did someone read those articles? Do check your stats

Anyway, I’d like to say something about the other side of it. For me traffic and search engine results is essential to all businesses out there! Yes it is true that Social Media is the means of getting notice. But on the other side will hurt you and your business if you aren’t ready for any results out of this new hype.

Example Case #2: The Digg Effect.

When someone diggs a page of yours and somehow you landed on the front page of digg, the first reaction would a big grin in the face. “Yeah, I made it!”. But what this means? Yes of course it will generate great traffic to your site the time you will be on the front page. On the other hand, it will surely SLOW DOWN your web server. You will sometimes ran out of bandwidth. And this is a big disappointment to your potential customers and buyers. The amount of traffic you will have from Digg users will not guarantee for a year. It will not increase your pagerank and search engine results. All you get is just ego that you made it to the front page but miss the opportunity to have a new customer signups and sales during this period of time.

Example Case #2: Youtube’s most voted video

Every day hundreds of videos were uploaded and watched by users online around the world. And then you and your business enters youtube world because someone said so. I don’t think there will be a 100% success on this kind of social media. Maybe some would do and some others will not. Even if you will be the most voted or watched video on Youtube, the message that you put behind the video will still be ignored. It would just be a waste of your business time and money in doing your video. Do you know why? Youtube users only share, bookmark or email videos that are weird and funny ones. What would you do? Do something weird like catching knives and balls of fire to get noticed? I don’t think so.

Social Media has gone so far. A lot of people claimed success of their businesses with social media. Do not get tempted by this. Social Media is merely a tool for one big success and it doesn’t mean that it always apply to anyone to succeed.

This means social media nowadays is already playing a vital role in the daily lives of people. But do you know the best stories about the existence of social media sites to the lives of many people?

Discover more talents across the globe. The existence of YouTube for video sharing fanatics has become a venue for local talents to dream big and aim high to join the international music scene. This story is about two Filipino musicians whose two different strategies they have posted on YouTube made them now a part of the international music industry. I am not telling this just because I am a Filipino too – but I want to point it out how this social media site YouTube helped them realize their dreams to make their mark in the international music industry. Arnel Pineda just posted his video in YouTube for fun, networking and only a little hope that people from across the globe would discover he has what it takes to succeed in singing. Luckily for him, he was later discovered by an international band who identified themselves Journey, to replace their vocalist who had reportedly left the band. After Arnel was discovered he was only invited to come to Europe and the rest was history. Arnel now is busy holding concerts with the Journey Band. Another music sensation in the Philippines is Ms Charise Pempengco who is now closely following the footsteps of Pineda. Charise’s idea was also different. She would make a singing competition video with her and other international singers. Few months later her videos on YouTube were already having tremendous page views reaching over a million. Charise is now traveling all over the globe to sing and duet with the world best. Their instant stardom to the music industry would not have been possible without YouTube. I know there are still many stories of successes recorded in YouTube and more stories to come as long as this video sharing site is still alive.

Success story over Facebook. The story of Brian Campbell over Facebook is also amazing. He is the internet marketer who has earned $10,000 in just 37 days. Brian now has over a thousand members in Facebook who wants to know how he he succeeded in this social media site. Facebook has millions of members worldwide which Campbell had seen as an opportunity to market marketable products and he did it. John Chow who earns $30,000 a month from blogging and who blog about Brian’s seemingly impossible goal was awarded by Brian the $10,000 he got from his 37-day study as his thanks of gratitude when he achieve his income goal. Now, there is a rumor that the Mormon Church is interested in buying Facebook. Maybe like Campbell, the Mormon Church has also seen the great opportunity over this social media site.

Friendships to many over Friendster. The existence of Friendster also resulted to the birth of many friendships and dating sites that develop in just so short a period of time. In many countries of the world you can see foreigners marry the locals because they knew each other over the internet, exchange ideas and develop into the feelings of the opposite sex. Gone were the days when it would take three months before your letter can be received by your Penpal abroad. The emailing system and other forms of online communication are now being used.

Flickr’s new photo sharing scheme. I’m sure the newest photo-sharing services of this social media site is again another widely-used tool by many bloggers.
