Meetup.com is a community networking website that facilitates meetings to an offline groups for any form of groups or various localities in the world. The site allows the users or members to look and join the group and create their own groups unified by a common interest, such as, games, politics, movies, health, education, hobbies, pets and businesses. Listings of topic for users are also available in any specific location.

On 2001 Meetup.com was founded by Scott Heiferman, Peter Kamili and Matt Meeker.

In the year 2002 to 2004 Meetup.com was recognized as one of the fastest growing community network online or social networking site in the world. It is also used by American politicians since 2003 for their campaign and political plans.

“Three founders of the Meetup company knew that people, all most of the time of their life were staying in front of the computers, TVs, DVDs and other electronics entertainment devices, and losing friends or personal connections with the community.” The Vice president of the company Explained, “that after 9/11 tragedy they started thinking how they could help in a positive way for having people reconnect to their own communities not in the chatrooms across the globe”.

On 22 July 2005 the company reported that 1,643,497, members 5,486 topics, and 58,878 local groups and on 11 November 2006 Meetup.com reported 18,368 groups and 3,540 topics.

The domain name MeetUp.com was first registered and conceived by Vancouverite Edward Periera along with Prem Samtani and David Lee as partners in early 1998. They developed 1^st online hotel block management application to be used in Canada in the year 1999 and Mexico in 2000. The domain name MeetUp was penned from the phrase “Let’s meet up at the hotel” and turn it out slang word which means “gathering”, and then emerged to “meetup”.
