Namesdatabase, To Be Scam or Not To Be Scam
No, I was not emailed and ask to pay $12 dollars to contact friends. A friend informed me that our friends and classmates contact information are in this social network. So, since I was so busy working, schooling and studying (in that particular order five times a week) that time, I informed a friend (let us call him Friend A) about it and he got so excited and sat with me on an internet café while I was preparing for my Field Study requirement.
So, the first page asked for Friend A’s full name, maiden last name (optional), birth year, email address and you got to choose your high school country and clicked continue. Then a small window will appear too ask Friend A to verify his information and to agree to their terms and conditions and click ok.
So, the second page asked Friend A to tell friends about NamesDataBase, and a note “This one small action helps make this popular service so useful!”. So, due to the excitement of being able to contact friends during your high school days; Friend A forgot to read between the lines and automatically typed out his friend’s names on it. A small window will appear and informed you that, “Put an EMAIL ADDRESS in BOX NUMBER 1”.
With a cheeky grin Friend A then typed 4 email addresses in the box and click ok. Another small window will appear and state, “Congratulations, you can now access The Names Database, Click OK and the WAIT”. And to his amazement, the system was so great that it told him that two of the email addresses has already been told. So, Friend A really looked for another two emails to replace his list. That done.
The third page will request you to “Click on the province or independent city where YOU graduated (or will graduate) high school.” After this selection of a certain school, a connection list will be given to you, if you have one.
And choices will be given to you:
A. UNLOCK FOR FREE by telling 24 friends about this- click here.
B. OR Choose a Blue Membership Option
b.1 1 Year Membership Only $1.00/month
b.2 3 Year Membership Only $0.50/month (Best Deal)
Question: So, if you have a credit and really wanted to contact your friend and had no communication with any of them, are you going to pay this ‘SMALL AMOUNT’? That is for you to answer.
After 12 months, Friend A collected 24 email addresses from officemates and friends and had access the Namesdatabase information. I asked him what is in there and said well ‘nothing’, basic information that you can get hold of in any social network. “There is ‘nothing’ special in there’, he said. HE DID NOT USE A CREDIT CARD. Blogs like written by certain ELLIOT LEE has his own reason.
Here are my realizations:
1. I was too scared to even join Namesdatabase community even for the sake of writing this article. I want to thank Friend A for showing me what is IN the community. I got to agree with him. NOTHING is in Namesdatabase.
2. The only thing positive with Namesdatabase is you will get the list of names of High school batch mates and thats it and perhaps correspond for free for a year, if you pass through the email lists.
3. Do not ever use a credit card for the transactions in Namesdatabase for keeping your account safe. That is base on my research.
4. Better not leave the popular networks such as facebook, myspace, LinkedIn, etc. it is safer there and absolutely free.
To Be Scam or Not To Be Scam? It is all up to you.
