Facebook Open Stream, a Strategic Shift

Budgeted money

Last Monday Facebook had made an announcement introducing API. What caught my attention is this,

“In addition to the Activity Streams interface, the Open Stream API includes robust new APIs called stream.get and stream.publish and new FQL tables that enable you to directly access the stream. With these new methods, you can access the stream on behalf of a user and then filter, remix, and display the stream back to that user however you choose, wherever you choose, in the manner most relevant for the user experience. Other new API methods will allow users to both publish into the stream and to add comments and “likes” to posts in the stream.” From Facebook Developers.

This new development on the world’s most famous social network opened new possibilities for facebook users. The fact that the users can now consume information through the use of stream even when they do not logged in to the network. The API gives the user more freedom on what to share or not to their friends and affiliates.

Before the birth of the open stream; facebook had already readied their members to this new step. News Feed was the first one developed on 2006, the Wall followed, Social Graph become also known. And now we have an open stream or the timeline.

With open stream or API Facebook had made one big leap to staying as the most popular social network.
