Chicago conference notes Youtube’s amazing performance
In the recent Search Engine Strategies (SES) Chicago conference and Expo, Greg Jarboe, Steve Espinosa and Gregory Markel shared their insights beyond Youtube’s success. These panelists talked about the common algorithms, tracking strategies, conversion and popularity of YouTube.
What makes YouTube on the lead of the other video sharing sites is its being SEO friendly. Title, description, number of views, ratings and tags needs to be optimized properly so that it can be easily determined and included in the top search listings of YouTube as well as in Google.
Take these Youtube SEO tips from the panelists of the SEO session for SES conference and expo.
-
Content Ideas. It’s like an online tutorial for something you wanted to know or learn. According to Jarboe, the “How-To” Videos are perhaps the best overall strategy for SEO and viral marketing“.
-
Competitor Research. “Click on a competitors video watch page “Statistics & Data” tab and analyze the factors contributing to the video ranking success, then work to meet or beat them!”, Markel says.
-
Video Dimension. Espinosa’s recommendation is not to go on widescreen. Eventhough Youtube currently features 16:9 video formats, he still recommends switching back to the old format of 4:3 because its thumbnail is more optimized. He says “Export in 4:3 if goal is universal search and conversions.”
-
Description Field. The anchor text has a limit of at least 27 characters in length and it would be best to insert a clickable URL into the first line of your description tag.
-
Video Images. Espinosa suggests to “Include a call-to-action”. Also Markel recommends to be “Constant In-Video Description/Branding/Call To Action”.
-
Piggybacking on Popularity. Markel’s opinion is to make a comment on famous videos with URLs on it such as Youtube {dot} com {slash} user {slash} mcarolyn05. Or you can make a video relating to the most popular videos and make keywords or titles alike to them.
-
Link Building. YouTube uses “nofollow” in every video title except those under “Recent Activity” section. So, better keep your favorited videos in that section.
-
Tracking. Everyone can track the stats of their uploaded videos through YouTube Insight tool. This includes Popularity, Demographics, My videos and Views.

Carolyn, you pretty much lifted the content I published on ReelSEO, and are making it appear like its your own here. Just putting one linkback without giving proper author credit is really copyright infringement. Try and come up with your own original posts rather than hijacking others, please.
