If you are a user of a social media or social networking sites you should remember always that what comes next after your free membership is great responsibility.
- Complete your profile – This is one of the basic responsibilities you should accomplish in a social media site such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, etc. Users who only disregard this basic responsibility are considered spammers by other net workers and network professionals. This means if you have good intentions why should you hide yourself by using other icons or photos which do not identify the real you.
- Update your page regularly – There are net users who have become members of various social networking sites but only visited once or during the time they found the site on the web. If you are not updating your page regularly, it’s better to disconnect yourself because you are not an effective member of that particular site. Remember that your friends who found you in that site would expect more updates about you, your activities and more photos. Even if you have only a 50-word update accompanied with some photos its more than enough. It does not necessarily means you have to write long articles with thoughts that are only going somewhere else. Good tips for few words writers: Less words, lesser mistakes.
- Visual presentations are better – if you cannot update it in words then posting of more photos about your travel and other activities in the office, friend’s outings, birthdays, debuts, and other parties are good example of a colorful updates your friends and followers want to see in your page.
- Avoid harsh comments and commentaries – Since social media can help you find your old friends and meet new ones it’s really a great power bestowed upon you so that you also have the great responsibility to keep your page as clean as possible with spam words, violent forums, and other activities that calls for debate and intrigues.
- Avoid stealing copyrighted photos – Many net users in the web stole pictures they like and place them on their social networking sites. While it is okay for some owners of photos but there are those who do not like their photos used by other unauthorized persons. If you are tempted to steal one you should credit the photo to its owner so that damages are lighter than what you expect when they have discovered you steal their copyrighted photos. This is especially if you get photos in sites that are not free for photo downloading.
